Majority feel IPL should have been held in India: Poll

An overwhelming 70 per cent of Indians feel that the high-profile Indian Premier League cricket tournament that will now be staged in South Africa should have been played in India.

An overwhelming 70 per cent of Indians feel that the high-profile Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket tournament that will now be staged in South Africa should have been played in India.

A survey conducted by NDTV-GfK-Mode in 13 cities with a sample size of 1,402 Indians also revealed that nearly 60 per cent of the respondents felt the decision was a disgrace for the country.

"Seventy-one per cent of the census would like IPL to be held in India and 29 per cent feel it does not matter where it is played," said a statement issued by NDTV on Tuesday.

According to the survey, 40 per cent people surveyed felt it would affect the Congress in the forthcoming elections, 19 per cent felt it was good for the party, while 41 per cent said it did not matter.
