Mustafizur Rahman will be the eighth icon category player for the 2017/18 edition of the Bangladesh Premier League, the BPL’s governing council has confirmed.

Mustafizur Rahman missed the last season of the Bangladesh Premier League as he was undergoing rehab after a shoulder surgery. However, this year he will get to choose which side he plays for, a right that is reserved only for icon or A-plus players.

Of the eight icon players named, five have already chosen their sides. Bangladesh skipper Mashrafe Mortaza has signed for the Rangpur Riders. Comilla Victorians chose Tamim Iqbal as their icon player.

Khulna Titans signed Mahmudullah as their icon player whilst all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has stayed with his old side Dhaka Dynamites. Meanwhile, Mushfiqur Rahim is currently negotiating with Rajshahi Kings, according to ESPNcricinfo.

This leaves three sides yet to choose their icon player - Barisal Bulls, Chittagong Vikings and Surma Sixers. Apart from Mustafizur Rahman, Soumya Sarkar and Sabbir Rahman are the other icon players available for selection until August 24th.

The franchises will also be able field a maximum of five and a minimum of three foreign players in their playing XI’s, as was the case in the 2012 and 2013 editions of the tournament.

The fifth edition of the Bangladesh Premier League is set to commence on November 2, 2017.
