The efforts to resolve the IPL's Kochi team ownership row intensified with the new chairman of the consortium Harshad Mehta starting a discussion with IPL officials.

Mehta, who is based in Dubai, is understood to have had a discussion with the BCCI officials. Both sides are understood to have clarified that they wanted the issue to be resolved expeditiously.

Mehta discussed the matter with IPL commissioner Lalit Modi and also had a courtesy meeting with senior BCCI official IS Bindra.

The concerned officials of the Rendezvous consortium, which bid for Kochi, IPL and BCCI were not willing to comment on the latest development.

Sources indicated that Mehta has also communicated that Sunanda Pushkar has offered to surrender her sweat equity, a bone of contention between IPL and Rendezvous.

Sources close to the development said all the related matters would be taken up in the next IPL Governing Council meeting and exuded confidence that the Kochi team issue would be resolved soon.

The issue has been simmering since Lalit Modi revealed its ownership structure on a social networking site, naming Pushkar who is close to Minister of State for External Affairs Shashi Tharoor.

The Modi-Tharoor public spat has been followed by speculation that the IPL commissioner's wings might be clipped while BJP is gunning for Tharoor's head, demanding his immediate sacking from the ministry.

The Income-Tax department has already raided the IPL office in Mumbai where they questioned Modi, besides carrying out a similar operation in Mohali.
