India's tour of England has descended into acrimony with the James Anderson-Ravindra Jadeja spat during the first Test at Trent Bridge, Nottingham. Hindustan Times looks at some of the other ugly spats in the past.

Ishant Sharma and Joe Root, Trent Bridge Test

Ishant Sharma and England batsman Joe Root were involved in a heated exchange on the penultimate day of the Trent Bridge Test, which ended in a draw. The India pacer shook the hosts after capturing three wickets in quick succession but Root led a fightback. The confrontation erupted during that phase of the match. The issue was sorted out by the umpire.

Bhajji vs Symonds, Sydney Test, 2007-08

Gautam Gambhir vs Shane Watson, Delhi Test, 2008

In the 2008 Delhi Test against Australia, Gautam Gambhir was in the form of his life and struck a double ton. Shane Watson was left frustrated by the left-hander's resilience and kept sledging him. An angry Gambhir reacted by elbowing Watto while taking a single. He was handed a one-Test ban by ICC, which turned down his appeal against the punishment.

Jelly Beans incident, Trent Bridge Test, 2007

The 2007 Trent Bridge Test also witnessed a major row. England fielders allegedly threw jelly beans on the pitch when Zaheer Khan came in to bat. The pacer was livid with what he described was "insulting" but avenged the slight by going on to bowl India to a series-clinching win. An angry Zaheer waved the bat accusingly at Pietersen.

Harbhajan, playing for Mumbai in the inaugural IPL season, had lost at his home ground, Mohali, when S Sreesanth, playing for Kings XI Punjab, allegedly taunted him. Harbhajan responded with a slap. He was banned for the rest of the IPL season.
