Pakistan became the first team at the World Cup to be fined for a slow over rate, slightly dampening the joy of defeating Sri Lanka on Saturday.

The ICC match referee ruled they were one over short of target in the stipulated time.

The Pakistan players were docked 10 percent of their match fees. Skipper Shahid Afridi, who was seen pleading with his bowlers to speed up proceedings in the final stages of the Sri Lankan run chase, was penalised double that amount, an ICC statement said.
