Sharad Pawar's decision to skip the World Cup 2011 Central Organising Committee (COC) meeting in Colombo on Friday has forced its cancellation.
"The meeting has been called off and a new date will have to be decided," said a top SLC official, reacting to the last-minute pullout by the BCCI chief, who is the chairman of the committee.
The meeting was scheduled for Friday and Pawar conveyed his inability to be in Colombo citing a meeting with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in New Delhi on Thursday night.
"We were informed by the BCCI that Mr Pawar has got an urgent government engagement as a result of which he will not be available for Friday's meeting," a top SLC official said adding they were initially surprised.
Officials from Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan and Bangladesh were to converge in Colombo to discuss the preparations of the World Cup, the stadiums and logistical arrangements.
SLC's Sujeewa Rajapakse is the treasurer of the committee.
