Under the new laws of the Australia Taxation Office that came into existence in June 2004, all visiting sportspersons are to pay tax on money earned here and media reports claimed it had angered the Indian players, who would be required to cough up USD 1.5 million.

Dismissing the claims, Chauhan said the cricketers never avoided paying taxes even at home.

"Whatever fees the Indian players are getting, they are not getting any exemption. They are paying tax like any normal individual in India and they are in the highest tax bracket," he said.

"At the same time, the BCCI is taking up the matter with Cricket Australia and the matter would be sorted out. But let me make it very clear that the players in no way are holding back paying tax," Chauhan was quoted as saying by Australian Associated Press.
