India’s top leaders joined cricket fans on Monday to congratulate Team India on winning the 20-20 World Cricket championships.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who watched the game with his family, asked Team India to “keep it going”. “They played well and made us proud,” the PM said, complimenting Pakistan as well for playing well.

“I congratulate you and your team for becoming the Twenty20 champions...the victory is an inspiration for our youth,” President Pratibha Patil said in a message to captain MS Dhoni.

“They have done India proud by keeping the tricolour flying high in the field of cricket,” said Sonia Gandhi.

Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil and Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee also lauded the team.
