Ricky Ponting reached his half-century even as Australia lost Michael Hussey soon after tea. This after India took three quick wickets during the middle session on day one of the second test on Saturday.

Australia started aggressively and went to lunch at 95 without loss. But the tourists only added four runs before Simon Katich was dismissed for 43, and Shane Watson was removed for 57 to make the total 113-2. Michael Clarke only scored 14 before he became Harbhajan Singh's second wicket.

Ponting batted with Mike Hussey, unbeaten on 29 at the interval, in a 57-run fourth-wicket stand to steady the innings. However, soon after tea, Hussey became Zaheer Khan's first victim of the match when he was caught by Virender Sehwag in a futile attempt to cut.
