It’s one of the things I will treasure for the rest of my life. I want to thank the boys for putting up this performance and for responding the way they did. We are a young team and nobody expected us to win and the way we played the final we deserve celebration. It would not have mattered if we had won or lost.
We needed this win. The way the World Cup 2007 went for us, this win will do some repair work... for the time being.
— Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni
It’s a great feeling to win the final. And I feel its also a great comeback for me personally.
I think I held my nerve under pressure.
The pitch was on the slower side so I had to bowl a bit slower. The batsmen were going for runs so I tried to vary the pace.
It was a big pressure situation and I think Joginder bowled really well. But everyone else did well too. We batted, bowled and fielded well. I think we needed this win especially after what happened to us in the World Cup early this year.
—Man of the Match Irfan Pathan
We gave our 100 per cent. I want to thank all my teammates for putting up this performance. I think we did a good job by restricting the strong Indian batting line-up to below 160. In fact it was our plan to keep them below 160. But it was our batting that let us down. And India really bowled superbly.
— Pakistan captain Shoaib Malik
This time I struggled with batting, so I concentrated on my bowling and fielding.
We enjoyed this tournament and I think it will be a big hit. It is great entertainment I feel that ICC should organise this tournament every two years.
— Man of the tournament Shahid Afridi
