Chennai Super Kings continued their good run in the CLT20 tournament beating Wayamba by 97 runs in their league match on Wednesday.
Riding on a half-century each by Murali Vijay and Suresh Raina followed by a torrid four-wicket spell from Ravichandran Ashwin, the IPL champions brought the game to an end with close to three overs to spare.
Wayamba never really looked in control of the game once the CSK innings ended at exactly 200 runs. Losing a wicket in Kulatunga in the second ball of their chase didn’t help matters either.
Albie Morkel spearheaded the pace battalion under MS Dhoni and picked up three wickets to reduce the Lankans to 31 for 5. It was Ashwin though who rattled the already shaky middle order. He made full use of bowling variations and only left paltry remains to be picked up by Muttiah Muralitharan.
Earlier in the day, Raina and Vijay blasted away to a 50-run partnership to help CSK wreck bowling figures of Wayamba bowlers.
Brief Score: CSK 200 for 3 in 20 overs (Raina 87, Vijay 68). Wayamba 103 all out in 17.1 overs (Karunanayake 25; Ashwin 4/18).
