Former Test captain Rameez Raja has called for drastic changes in the national side after their disastrous tour of Australia where they were handed whitewash in both the Test and ODI series.
Rameez said in an interview that the present Pakistan batsmen lacked discipline, self belief and technique to beat top sides at the moment.
"The way I see it you need to carry out a comprehensive surgery to set things right because the team performed very poorly in Australia," Rameez said.
"It is time to think long term and on modern lines in Pakistan cricket. Because in Australia we never looked like winning at any stage," he added.
Rameez agreed that the Cricket Board had not helped matters either by giving unnecessary statements about players and captaincy during the tour.
"Obviously, that would have affected the performances of the captain and team. They (PCB officials) could have avoided it until after the tour," he said.
PCB Chairman Ejaz Butt has said repeatedly that Mohammad Yousuf would be replaced by a younger captain. He also spoke about the need of making changes in the team and inducting fresh blood.
Rameez said Yousuf's captaincy was not up to the mark in Australia as it was the skipper who was expected to make the team fight and give their best under pressure.
