Rousing welcome for Team India
Team India walks in to a rapturous welcome from the fans on their arrival in Chandigarh, reports Subhash Rajta.cricket Updated: Nov 07, 2007 02:55 IST
The teams were scheduled to arrive in Chandigarh around 5 pm. The fans and media persons had taken vantage positions in the hotel lobby. But it was well past 7 pm when the teams finally arrived to a huge uproar.
Conspicuous by their absence were Shoaib Malik and Geoff Lawson. Before some imaginative minds could work out an interesting tale, news trickled in that the coach and captain had rushed to the stadium to have a look at the wicket. Not strange, given the problems Pakistan seem to be afflicted with at the moment. They had requested for a full-fledged fielding session under lights, but the delay forced them to cancel it.
Meanwhile, the teams walked in to a rapturous welcome and the Indians looked in high spirits. While the long wait seemed to have little affect on the fans, the media persons looked exasperated.
They, however, sprang back to life when Anjali Tendulkar, wife of Sachin Tendulkar, arrived, unexpectedly, with her children. Later, Tendulkar looked surprised to find his children running in the lobby.
