When he took oath as a Rajya Sabha member, Sachin Tendulkar had hoped to be known as someone who contributed to the improvement of all sports. However, no action has been taken on his proposal to the government for moulding talent at school and college level and providing sports infrastructure at university level.
Tendulkar had written to then HRD minister, Kapil Sibal, and Sports minister, Ajay Maken, and submitted a two-page summary with 25 slides on the road ahead for Indian sports. His proposal was largely based on one prepared by SAI last year to identify talent in the 13-15 age group to train them for the 2020 Olympics.
Tendulkar had outlined four points in his proposal — tap into grassroots and nurture young talent, promote sports at university and college levels, revamp sporting infrastructure and make physical activity a part of school curriculum.
