Even as the entire country is going gaga over the performance of the youngsters in the Indian cricket team, Sachin Tendulkar gently reminded everyone of the contribution of the seniors in the first part of the Australian tour which, he felt, laid the foundation for what followed in the ODI tri-series.
"We had played a very good Test series (against Australia). That laid a good foundation. Everyone knows how well we played (in the Tests). That foundation should not be forgotten," said the champion batsman at the function to launch the Mumbai Indians Indian Premier League squad which he will captain.
India, led by Anil Kumble in the Tests, very nearly toppled the applecart of the world's number one team in the fiercely fought four-match rubber before losing it narrowly 1-2.
Kumble, Rahul Dravid, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman, among others, played a lead role in the series before returning home for some ODI specialists to join the team which later vanquished the World Cup-winning hosts 2-0 in the best-of-three finals to create history as the first Indian team to win a tri-series Down Under.
