Debutant spinner Harmeet Singh’s brilliant spell of 3/38 spelt doom for Himachal as the visitors sleepwalked to defeat against Mumbai on Friday.
With spin taking centrestage at the Bandra Kurla Complex from the second day, Mumbai knew they had the advantage of having two quality tweakers in Harmeet and Iqbal Abdulla. Chasing 248 on a fourth-day wicket was always going to be difficult, and Mumbai proved that by eking out an 85-run win.
The visitors lost the plot in the first session itself when they lost three wickets for 40 runs. Sangram Singh, Bhavin Thakkar and Vikramjeet Malik were back in the pavilion by lunch and the visitor’s weakness against spinners was exposed when Harmeet and Abdulla exchanged ends in the second session. Harmeet got his first wicket when he removed Paras Dogra with the one that turned sharply.
Abdulla removed Mukhesh Sharma with a smart return catch and then flummoxed Abhinav Bali with a beauty of a delivery.
