Former India captain Kapil Dev feels pacer Shanthakumaran Sreesanth needs to focus more on cricket and should use his aggression to better his performance.
When asked about his impression on the Kerala fast bowler, Kapil jokingly asked, "about cricketer or actor Sreesanth?" But then added: "I wish he concentrates more on cricket. Aggression is good but it should be on the field."
"When you represent the country, performance has to be there and I wish he performs on the cricket field."
Kapil also welcomed the Board of Control for Cricket in India's (BCCI) proposal to professionalise the selection procedure in India.
According to the recommendation put forward in BCCI's working committee meeting Sunday, the existing honorary set-up needs to be scraped and the selector should be paid Rs 2.5 million each. Among other proposals, the selection committee members should have retired from international cricket at least ten years ago to qualify for the job, and that he should not be an office-bearer of the BCCI or any of its affiliated units.
"This is certainly good for the game in India. But the proposed suggestion of the candidate retiring at least ten years ago to be a selector is debatable," Kapil said.
Asked about the success of the Indian Cricket League (ICL) as compared to the Indian Premier League (IPL), Kapil said: "I am happy that the two are being compared."
"If you look into the marketing aspect, yes, the IPL leads. But there are other aspects other than marketing that need to be compared. Mind you they (BCCI) are here from several decades whereas ICL is just a year old."
