After his return from a long tour of Australia that finished off with the World Cup, Team India's batsman Suresh Raina got engaged to his childhood friend Priyanka Chaudhary on Wednesday in Ghaziabad.

Priyanka is an IT professional with a bank in Amsterdam.

The low-key engagement ceremony was held at Raina's residence at Raj Nagar in Ghaziabad where 30-35 people were present, including those from Priyanka's family who arrived from Meerut.

"Suresh gets engaged today (Wednesday) and the marriage is slated for April 3 in Delhi," Raina's brother Naresh said.

Sources said that both the families knew each other for a long time since Raina's and Priyanka's father worked together at the ordinance factory at Murad Nagar. Later, Priyanka's family shifted to Meerut.

Sources said that Raina's and Priyanka's parents spoke a while back about the marriage and it was finalised while Suresh was playing in Australia.

Several reports also said that Priyanka might give up her job and will stay in India post the marriage.

Her family hails from Baraut. She reportedly pursued her B.Tech from an engineering college at Ghaziabad and her brothers are also IT professionals working in Chennai and Noida.

Raina's house at Raj Nagar was decorated for the occasion, with the cricketer himself spotted several times adorning a blue-coloured kurta.

Following the ceremonies inside the house, he was seen coming out in a silver kurta and a red-coloured half coat, and eventually drove off with a friend in his car.

The entire ceremony was kept out of the media glare.

The couple is set to marry on April 3 in Delhi where some of the invitees are expected to include senior politicians and Raina's colleagues from the Indian cricket team.
