Fresh rain on Thursday seemed set to further delay the start of the third Ashes Test between England and Australia at Edgbaston.
Heavy rain on Wednesday had left the outfield unfit for play in the opinion of umpires Rudi Koertzen and Aleem Dar.
The officials were due to hold an inspection at the scheduled start time of 11am (1000GMT) but approximately 30 minutes before they were due to look at conditions, the ground was subjected to a fresh downpour.
England lead the five-match series 1-0 after their 115-run win in the second Test at Lord's.
