The brilliant triple century also caught the attention of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who congratulated Nair on his knock.
Karun Nair, who plays for Karnataka in the Ranji Trophy, also joined cricket legends like Gary Sobers and Bob Simpson by becoming only the third Test batsman to convert his maiden Test hundred into a triple century. (HIGHLIGHTS)
India declared their first innings right after Nair reached his triple hundred. Nair’s 303 became the third highest individual score by an Indian in Tests, after Sehwag’s 319 against South Africa in March 2008 and 309 against Pakistan in March-April 2004.
Nair also became the highest individual scorer for India against England in Test cricket, going past Virat Kohli’s 235 runs scored in Mumbai in the fourth Test of this series. (SCORECARD)
