The West Indies beat New Zealand in the first Twenty20 cricket match to be decided by an "eliminator over" after the game was tied at 155-all at Eden Park on Friday.

The West Indies beat New Zealand in the first Twenty20 cricket match to be decided by an "eliminator over" after the game was tied at 155-all at Eden Park on Friday.

In the play-off involving three batsmen and one bowler, the West Indies scored 25 for one in their over, and New Zealand were all out for 15 runs on the fourth ball.

In the game proper Ross Taylor top scored for New Zealand with 63 and Chris Gayle took two for 16.

Gayle scored 67 for the West Indies and Daniel Vettori took three for 16.
