WI clinch thriller

A late batting onslaught by Ramnaresh Sarwan and Denesh Ramdin saw the West Indies snatch victory with one ball to spare in the second ODI against New Zealand on Saturday.

In a match reduced to 28 overs per side due to thunder and hail, New Zealand made 152 for eight and under the Duckworth-Lewis system the West Indies were set a target of 158 to win.

Sarwan fittingly hit the winning run off the penultimate delivery to finish unbeaten on 67.

Brief scores: New Zealand 152 for 8 (Ryder 32, Elliott not out 30; Edwards 3-26) lost to West Indies 158 for 5 (Gayle 36, Sarwan not out 67, D Ramdin not out 28) by five wickets.
