Zaheer Khan and Praveen Kumar have been recalled in the squad for the remaining three one-dayers against New Zealand replacing Suresh Raina and Sreesanth.
Zaheer Khan had been rested and Praveen Kumar had fever soon after he got married on November 19.
The selectors met in Jaipur on Thursday morning and announced two different squads for the third ODI here and the remaining two in Bangalore and Chennai.
After skipper Mahenra Singh Dhoni spoke about how tired Raina was playing non-stop cricket for since February, the selectors opted to rest the left-hander.
His obvious replacement would have been Rohit Sharma but he is playing Mumbai's Ranji Trophy match against Gujarat in Valsad and it would not have been possible for him to join the squad for the third ODI here on Saturday as the Ranji match gets over on the same day.
Sharma will join the squad for the fourth and the fifth ODIs which has yet another change. The selection committee has decided to give wicketkeeper Parthiv Patel another chance and he replaces Bengal's Wriddhiman Saha.
Saturday is the only chance for R Vinay Kumar. The Karnataka medium-pacer, who was part of the winning team in Visakhapatnam against Australia and had conceded 71 runs off nine overs, has not played in the first two ODIs and if not picked here will have to go out without getting a chance to show he has improved. Sreesanth did not bowl in his opening spell in the first match in Guwahati but did well in the second match on Wednesday.
The selection committee wanted to give Zaheer and Praveen some match practice before the South Africa series and with Munaf Patel bowling well it would be a tough task for the thinktank to choose between Patel and Ashish Nehra.
