Student leaders forcibly closed the office counters of DAV (PG) College on Monday affecting sale of admission forms.

Later, they staged a demonstration at the college gate and demanded immediate removal of principal Devendra Bhasin. The agitators alleged that the principal has not contributed enough in strengthening the college infrastructure.

Vice-president of the National Students' Union of India (NSUI), Nitin Joshi who addressed a press conference said, "The college principal didn't support the students when it came to merit-based admission process. He should have strongly backed our stand before the high court. Besides, there has been no improvement in college infrastructure of college during his tenure as principal."

The students said the principal decided to sell admission forms for merit-based admission from Monday. The decision angered the students who did not allow the office counters to sell any form.

The agitators who also demanded increase in number of teachers said at present there are 134 teachers who can only help 3000 students. But if the number of students goes up to 12,850, more teachers would be needed.

At present, the college which has 37,000 students has a very poor infrastructure, the students said. The building is in dilapidated condition; the laboratories are ill equipped and washrooms are in squalid state.

A delegation of students that left for the Nainital High Court on Sunday evening prepared all the documents on Monday. The students said they will file petition for review of the HC order on admission against approved seats on Tuesday. The HC had on June 11 this year directed degree colleges of the state to admit students strictly against seats approved.
