Six persons died while ten were seriously injured when a utility vehicle they were travelling in fell into a gorge in Kalsi block area, almost 60 kilometers from Dehradun district Headquarter. All the dead bodies have been recovered while injured have been rushed to the hospital.
Police informed that accident took place at around 9 am near Punah village when the ill fated vehicle was coming down from Kahnaira suburb of Kalsi Block to Vikasnagar. According to the police exact cause of the accident is not known but prime facie it appeared that utility vehicle skid down for perhaps break failure. A team of Vikasnagar block police led by circle officer SK Singh and began it’s rescue operation.
“We have recovered all dead bodies including two women and four men. Among Injured were a boy, two women and seven men. They have been rushed to Vikasnagar for medical aid. Police is investigation as to the exact cause of the accident” informed Vikasnagar CO SK Singh. He stated that 16 persons were travelling in the vehicles which was overcrowded seeing the size of a utility vehicle.
Interestingly plying over crowded utility vehicles by the cab drivers is a routine affair in rural hill areas here in order to make more money. According to police over loaded passengers and poor maintenance of the utility vehicles is one the main c causes of accidents in hill areas.
