Bharitya Janata Party’s new state president Ajay Bhatt appealed to party’s office-bearers on Sunday to launch a movement to expose the Harish Rawat-led Congress government’s failures ahead of the 2017 assembly polls.
Bhatt inaugurated a state-level conference of the party at Ramnagar.
“Take to the people all the issues related to this (Congress) government, be it corruption or its all-round failure on the front of governance,” state BJP spokesperson Virendra Singh Bisht quoted the state party chief as saying.
Bhatt appealed to the party office-bearers to explain to the people about all allegations of corruption involving the Congress government.
“Do not spare it (the state government) on any issue, be it its involvement in the relief scam post the 2013 floods or the excise scam involving the chief minister’s former secretary Mohammad Shahid,” he said.
The state BJP chief asked party workers to also take to the people the achievements of the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre.
“Also, explain to the people how the Congress leaders are falsely accusing the Centre of not releasing funds for the state,” he said.
The state BJP spokesperson said the party will release a calendar of protest programmes against the Congress government. The members of the BJP legislature party met in the evening session to decide the Leader of Opposition (LoP).
The position fell vacant after LoP Bhatt was elected unopposed as the state BJP president on December 31.
Sources, however, said though the new LoP would be elected by the BJP’s legislature wing at the party’s evening session itself, his name wouldn’t be announced immediately.
“Our party’s central leadership will announce the name of the new LoP sometime after February 16,” a state BJP office-bearer said.
