The Indo-US military exercise, titled Yudh Abhyas 2016, which was scheduled to start on Wednesday at Chaubatiya in Almora district, was postponed by a day as some officials, who were to take part in the proceedings, could not reach Chaubatiya on time.
This is the 12th edition of the special military exercise.
The central command of the Indian army, which is overseeing the operations, has made all the arrangements for this exercise. It will focus on mountain warfare, for which Chaubatiya is an ideal location.
The main thrust of this exercise is on building counter-insurgency tactics and dealing with internal strife. This exercise is important from the point of view of diplomacy too and shows the growing mutual relations between the two countries.
Close to 450 army personnel from both countries are taking part in the exercise.
“The exercise has many dimensions. It helps us in understanding the military doctrines. We also send a message to countries like Pakistan and China that we have a good understanding with the US and both will help each other at the time of need,” Major General Chander Nandwani (retired) said.
