A Dehradun-based surgeon, Dr Manuj Wadhwa, has secured a place in the Limca Book of Records for performing the highest number of joint replacement surgeries by any single surgeon in a month. He achieved this feat for having performed 331 joint replacement surgeries in March 2013.
Dr Wadhwa, who works as the director and head of the department of orthopaedics at Max Super Speciality Hospital, Dehradun, has received recognition in the 2014 edition of Limca Book.
“For me, the most rewarding moments were when patients would realise that the pain in their joints had become a thing of the past and they could go back to lead a healthy life,” the surgeon said.
He said the latest technologies and advancement in knee-replacement surgery was now highly accurate and time-saving. A normal procedure could be completed within 15 to 20 minutes, he added.
“Now, we use the keyhole technique for conducting surgeries. It reduces the pain significantly and helps the patient recovery quickly.
“It also provides tremendous amount of flexibility to the knee joint,” he added.
