Dehradun: The detection of duplicate names in voters list will be easy now as the election commission of India has launched its Uttarakhand chapter of Electoral Regulation Officer (ERO) net linking it with offices of district election officers on Tuesday.

According to Uttarakhand chief electoral officer Radha Raturi, the launch of the ERO will also enable the voters to check the anomalies, if any, pertaining to their names. Raturi said that the launch of the electoral activities in the state is directly connected to 661 district electoral officers and 7500 ERO nets across the country.

“ERO nets will be useful to resolve the issues concerning duplication of voters’ names. Multiple entries pertaining to the same voter at different locations or polling booths can lead to generation of check lists automatically that will enable the voter to see it themselves. Resolving duplication of data will be easier as Election Commission of India has already prepared its National Database, better known as Unified National Photo Electoral Rolls (UNPER), for the state assembly election in the country,” said Raturi.

According to the CEO, ERO will also help in circulating information about the complaints of voters via sms, e-mails or other mobile applications. The new online arrangement for ECI will also provide means of sending alerts to DEOs, EROs and BLOs by the departments.

Raturi added that the ERO net will also help in easy filing of online applications for new enrolments in voters list. She announced that deadlines for submission of complaints pertaining to shifting or rectification in voters list has been shifted from November 10 to November 30, 2017.
