The Samajwadi Party, the Communist Party of India and CPI(Marixist) have announced of an alliance in Uttarakhand to fight the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. These parties have also called upon the other non-BJP and non-Congress parties to join the alliance and strengthen the regional forces.
Addressing a press conference at the Samajwadi Party office at Parade Ground on Wednesday, party chief Dr Satyanarayan Sachan said that the CPI would contest on the Pauri seat and Narendra Singh Negi would be the party’s official candidate. Shiv Prasad Devli of the CPI(M) would contest on the Tehri seat.
Avtar Singh of the Samajwadi Party would fight on the Nainital seat and Bhagwati Prasad Trikoti would contest on the Almora seat. Samajwadi Party’s candidate on the Haridwar seat Ajmal Nawaz Khan would be changed as he is currently recuperating in hospital.
Sachan said that the alliance would pose a challenge to the Congress and the BJP and emerge victorious. “We have forged the alliance to provide an alternative to the people and bring succor to the common man who is reeling under injustice,” he said.
CPI(M) state secretary Vijay Rawat said that the Left parties have always fought for people’s issues and they would welcome more parties to join hands with them.
National Council member of the CPI Samar Bhandari said that the people in the hill state would definitely give a chance to the new alliance.
