The case was heard by the division bench of Justices Sudhanshu Dhulia and Justice Lokpal Singh. Senior district officials, including senior superintendent of police and executive officer of Nainital Municipal Corporation, were present during the hearing.

Last month, while hearing the PIL, the court has directed the authorities to advertise prominently in at least four national newspapers and channels clearly stating that those coming to Nainital with their own vehicles should first make advance arrangements for parking their vehicles.

During the hearing on Thursday, the bench also directed the divisional forest officer (DFO) and cantonment board that they should cooperate with the district authorities in their efforts to create more parking space in and around Nainital.

The district authorities also apprised the court that for creating special vendor zones, two areas-Talitaal and Bara Pathar-were under their active consideration. The authorities also told the court that parking arrangements were being created at Narayan Nagar and Roosi Bypass.

Also, the authorities informed the court that parking space for 400 vehicles had been identified at Kailakhana and talks were on with the senior officials of the cantonment board regarding the same. A detailed project report for creating a parking lot with a capacity of 350 vehicles at Ashok Cinema had also been prepared, the district authorities told the court.
