The town is witnessing traffic jams, particularly on weekends when the rush of tourist is high.
Long queues of vehicles between Kincraing to Picture Palace, Kincraig to Gandhi Chowk, Picture Palace to Landour and Gandhi Chowk to Kempty Falls are witnessed, and tourists are being caught up in these jams for a long time.
"I was stuck in a traffic jam near Gandhi Chowk for over 20 minutes and the worst thing was there was no policeman to manage the traffic," said Raman Kumar, a tourist.
Local residents blame inefficient traffic management and police lethargy for traffic jams.
"If the traffic is managed properly, then there is no reason for jams in Mussoorie, especially in this season. However, we never see policeman on duty at critical points," said a local resident.
On Sunday, director inspector general of police Pushpak Jyoti held a meeting with police personnel and citizens of Mussoorie and invited suggestions to regulate traffic during the upcoming tourist season.
Jyoti said special steps would be taken to curb drunken-driving and that 'alcohol meters' would be made available to police.
