Uttarakhand Governor KK Paul and chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat on Tuesday flagged off the ‘Run for Unity’ from the Vidhan Sabha Bhawan campus to mark the birth anniversary of India’s first home minister Sardar Patel.
Both Paul and Rawat participated in the `Run for Unity’, which concluded at the Police Lines. Hundreds of people from across the state participated in the ‘Run for Unity’. At the concluding part of the function, the governor administered the participants the pledge of national unity and integrity.
Paul said the entire nation is paying tributes to the ‘Iron Man of India’ on his birth anniversary. The governor extolled the contribution of Patel in merging the erstwhile princely states with India. “It was thanks to his (Patel) strong will power, political sagacity and farsightedness that a seemingly impossible task could be resolved without violence or bloodshed.”
Rawat, while paying tributes to the great freedom fighter, said the country’s youth should take a leaf out of Patel’s life. “All educational institutes, on the occasion of the birth anniversaries of the country’s great personalities, should publicise their contributions,” an official note quoted Rawat as saying.
