DEHRADUN: The Uttarakhand government will use the photo and logo of former Jansangh president Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay in its offices, publicity and promotional materials to commemorate the BJP ideologue’s birth centenary celebrations.
Taking the lead, tourism, culture, watershed and pilgrimage minister Satpal Maharaj directed his officials to display Deendayal Upadhyaya’s logo with the message ‘Gareeb Kalyan Varsh’ (Year of welfare for poor) in all advertisements, promotional and other publicity activities throughout the year.
Tourism officials were asked to display or put up Upadhyay’s photographs in the offices as he has been a ‘source of inspiration’ for the people and government. The minister has directed officials that wherever photographs cannot be used, it could be replaced by logo stickers.
Incidentally, the tourism department works a lot on publicity and promotional activities in Uttarakhand and across the country to attract investors.
“Deendayal Upadhayay was not only our ideal but also a great human being who conceived and propounded the philosophy of ‘integral humanism’ that works on mechanism of ‘Vasudaiv Kutumbakam’. Besides being a Jansangh leader, he was a great thinker and writer who worked for uplift of the poor and for keeping India united. The nation is celebrating his birth centenary and we will remember him this way,” the minister told Hindustan Times.
Satpal added that the culture and the watershed management departments will follow the directive with immediate effect.
He stressed that the government will also soon begin work on developing a model hill township in memory of Upadhyay in accordance with party’s vision paper announced before the election. “The town will come up at a place that will be easily accessible for the people of both Kumaon and Garhwal regions,” he said, pointing towards Gairsain designated as summer capital of Uttarakhand.
