The Uttarakhand government will soon enter into an agreement with yoga guru Ramdev’s Patanjali Trust to market cow urine that will be collected by farmers of district milk cooperative unions (DMCUs). Ramdev’s trust will pay ₹10 for a litre of cow urine supplied by the state government.

Although the state animal husbandry department is yet to estimate the amount of cow urine it will collect from the DMCUs but the government has stated that Patanjali will accept entire consignment that will be provided to it.

Cooperative department officials said two rounds of meeting between Ramdev and Balkrishna - managing director of Patanjali Trust - and the state government led by chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat have already taken place.

“We are almost in the final stage of signing an MoU with Patanjali following two rounds of meetings between the two sides,” said Meenakshi Sundaram, secretary of the animal husbandry department.

“This business deal with Patanjali will not only fetch revenue for the state but also for farmers and help latter increase in milk production by encouraging them for more cow rearing.

“Patanjali has given its commitment to take the entire consignment of cow urine provided by us at ₹10 a litre,” said Sundaram. “We hope to generate good revenue from this.”

The government will collect cow urine only from those milk cooperative societies and farmers who are supplying milks to Uttarakhand Milk Cooperation Federation branded as Anchal, Sundaram said.

Anchal is a conglomerate of district milk cooperative unions with which milk cooperative societies are across the state are affiliated.

Cow urine collection centres will be the same where milk is collected, the official said.

Sundaram said as per the proposed agreement, Patanjali would provide a processor unit to the government through which processed cow urine — better known as cow urine urc — will be provided to the Ramdev’s trust.
