Actress Asima Bhatt, who is famous for her inclination towards art cinema, says that she would love to venture into commercial cinema if good roles come her way.
She also expresses her wish of working in a Shyam Benegal film in the future, as she has idolized the famed director all through her life. Bhatt, who presently lives in Mumbai, was born and brought up in Nawada, Bihar.
“I can’t just act in a film for money, the role has to appeal to me,” she says. For Bhatt, there is a wide gap between art films and commercial films, which she says shouldn’t be so. However, she is happy that many commercial films are very thought provoking.
Bhatt has acted in short films titled Bitiya, Turning 30, Striker and Kismet Bole To. She has also produced a film titled ‘A Blind Faith’ on the superstitions among women, apart from acting in many TV shows on Colours channel, including Bairi Piya and Mohe Rang De.
Bhatt says theatre is of utmost importance in her life. “I have done more than 100 solo plays of ‘Ek Anjaan Aurat Ka Khat’ and would be doing more in the days to come,” she points out.
