Top medical and football bodies of the country are among those that may have defaulted on property tax under the South Delhi Municipal Corporation.
The civic agency's property tax department has prepared a list of 28 suspected defaulters against whom action has been taken. These include properties belonging to the Medical Council of India and All India Football Federation.
A senior civic body official told Hindustan Times that 28 properties have been shortlisted as suspect defaulters. "Under Section 123 AB of the Delhi Municipal Corporation Act, they have been sent notices and asked to send documentary evidence to us, which will ascertain whether they have paid taxes. They have been given 15 days to respond to the notices, failing which action will be taken against them," the official said.
According to the official, many of these properties were new and discovered after a survey by the property tax department.
Apart from a Pocket-14, Sector-8, Phase-1 property in Dwarka of the Medical Council of India, and a Sector-19, Phase-I building in Dwarka belonging to the All India Football Federation, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Intellectual Property Building, the list of 28 includes properties of other government agencies too.
"The list includes properties of Sahitya Academy, Ministry of Culture, National Malaria Research Centre, National Board of Examination, Delhi Government Residential Financial Corporation, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Rural Health Training Centre of the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Soochna Bhawan under the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, National Information Centre under the Ministry of Communications and Information, Staff Selection Commission and National Crime Records Bureau, among others," the official said, adding that these 28 properties are located in Dwarka, Lodhi Road, Defence Colony and RK Puram.
