A new storm has brought heavy rains, snow and powerful winds to New York and New Jersey, leaving over 1,700 flights cancelled.

The latest storm, named Athena, was moving northward off the East Coast and would bring precipitation to the northern mid-Atlantic and northeast.

Till the time of going to press, all except one flight were scheduled to fly to New York and New Jersey areas. One United Airlines flight to Newark (UA 083) from New Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport, however, was cancelled.

"We have two flights to US on Thursday, and both are on schedule," said an Air India official.
