His luck ran out and his car ditched him, twice in one night.
Varun Sikka (32) was heading home with a woman friend after a party in his golden Honda Accord when his car hit a motorcycle in Chanakyapuri in New Delhi district on Wednesday around 10:30 pm.
He got off his car to help but fled after realising the biker was calling the police. When he was escaping, the car’s tyre burst but he continued to drive.
His run ended with the vehicle crashing into the wall of a cabinet minister’s house in Janpath.
Police said the two fled, barefoot, after that but they were arrested from near India Gate.
Sikka was allegedly speeding and near Ram Manohar Lohia hospital, he hit the motorcycle.
The biker, Hemant Kumar (27), was returning from his Malviya Nagar office to his residence in Rohini, when the accident took place.
He is recuperating in Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital with a fractured leg.
“Sikka was driving on the rim of the deflated tyre after hitting the motorcycle,” said a senior police officer, who didn’t give his name as he is not authorised to talk to the media.
“He lost control over the vehicle near Janpath and after hitting a divider he hit the boundary wall of the house.”
A medical examination confirmed that Sikka was in an inebriated condition.
A case of rash and negligent driving and driving under the influence of alcohol has been lodged against Sikka at Chanakyapuri Police Station.
Police have also impounded his car.
