A 25-year-old man was killed and two others were injured when a tempo hit an autorickshaw at Sunder Nagar in southeast Delhi on Saturday night.
The victim, Owais Kamli, owned a store of Kashmiri shawls and carpets in Le Meridien hotel.
Police said Kamli and another employee were on his way to his Jungpura home from Le Meridien hotel in an autorickshaw when the incident took place.
Kamli’s autorickshaw was hit by a the tempo coming from the opposite direction near Delhi Public School.
The police said the tempo was carrying wooden shafts and was reportedly overspeeding.
The occupants of the auto were rushed to Jai Prakash Narain Trauma Centre where Kamli died during treatment, the police said.
The tempo driver, identified as Ramavatar, has been arrested.
A case of rash and negligent driving has been registered at the Nizamuddin police station.
The police said the condition of the other two was said to be stable.
Kamli was a resident of Srinagar.
In another incident, three people were injured when an overspeeding Toyota Innova hit three cars near Bhairon Mandir in Kalkaji area of southeast Delhi.
The Innova driver, identified as Kuldeep Chand (25), has been arrested and cases of rash and negligent driving were slapped against him.
The police said the accused first crashed the car into three vehicles before hitting the pavement where three pedestrians were injured.
The incident was reported around 11 p.m. on Saturday.
