Delhiites will have to wait for 10 more days to enjoy the chilly winters.
However, for those who feel that the winters are late this year and November was warm, it has been the trend for the past five years.
Moreover, with a large chunk of the population still using fans and ACs, power consumption has gone up this year. The highest demand touched 3,231 MW in November 2010, while it has gone up to 3,316 MW this year. On November 29, 2010, the consumption was 2,866 MW, while this year it is 3,080."Though power demand is supposed to rise every year, but this year, it increased on account of delay in the arrival of winter. People are still using fans throughout the day. ACs, too, are being used during the day time," said a senior power department official.
According to officials at the India Meteorological Department, the temperatures will go down appreciably after December 10. “Till then, the temperatures are expected to be a degree or two above normal. Reason: there is absence of western disturbances, which affect north India’s temperature,” he said.
While the coming week is expected to see shallow fog in the morning, dense fog can be expected only towards the middle of December.
Last year on November 30, the maximum temperature was 25 degrees Celsius, while the minimum was 10 degrees Celsius, both a degree above normal.
On the same day this year, the maximum and minimum temperatures were 26 degree Celsius and 11. degree Celsius 5 (two degrees above normal), respectively.
