A 10-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a relative in northwest Delhi’s Bhalswa Dairy area. The suspect was arrested on Sunday.
Police said the incident took place on Saturday when the girl was playing with her friends, including the children of the 30-year-old accused, who is also her distant relative.
The man, who lives near the victim’s house, allegedly took the 10-year-old to a secluded spot and raped her, deputy commissioner of police (northwest) Vijay Singh said.
When the girl returned home, she informed her parents about being allegedly sexually assaulted by maternal uncle she used to call “mamu”.
The parents then approached police and a case was registered at Bhalswa Dairy police station under section 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
When police went to the house of the accused, he was found to be absconding. The man was apprehended on Sunday morning from a forested area in Bhalswa Dairy, police said.
