With eleven cases of shop burglaries being registered in different parts of south Delhi in just two days, the area seems to have become a hotspot of miscreants.

Looking at the modus operandi, the police are suspecting the involvement of a notorious gang from Mewat district in Haryana behind the acts. Several Mewat-based gangs have been busted by the police, especially teams of the south district police, in the last two to three years. Interestingly, in almost all the cases, the gang has used a white Mahindra Bolero.

While six shops were burgled at DDA market in Vasant Vihar, four shops were targetted by the burglars at Khanna Market in Lodhi Colony. A similar incident was reported from Kotla Mubarakpur where unidentified burglars struck at a mother dairy booth and decamped with R6,000 in cash and some milk-made items.

Chhaya Sharma, deputy commissioner of police (south) said, “Some incidents of burglary in shops have been reported and cases have been registered. We have identified the gang responsible for these burglaries and will crack it soon.”

On January 4, one Ruby Kapoor, who runs a boutique at DDA market in Munirka Vihar lodged a complaint that her shop was found burgled and R9,600 in cash was missing. She also informed police that five more shops in the same market were burgled in a similar manner.

On January 5, one Raj Kumar Gulati who runs a provisional store in Khanna Market made a PCR call about a burglary at his shop and claimed that R46,500 were missing. A police team reached the spot and learnt that shutters of two more shops in the market were broken and cash and valuables were missing. A security guard at the market told him that the burglars had come in a white Bolero SUV and to nab the criminals the same vehicle was chased by police. However, the police could not catch them.
