Eleven years ago, Jitender alias Kala shot the college union president of Satyawati College. An hour and a half later, he pumped the remaining three bullets into the father of a student who had seen him commit the first murder.
On Friday, Additional Sessions Judge Bharat Parashar convicted Jitender (40) for the murder of Anil Bhadana (26), the college union president, and Keemti Lal Nayyar (52), the father of Sumit Nayyar, an eyewitness to the NSUI leader’s murder.
The court fixed March 17 for arguments on the sentence.
The prosecution said Bhadana was a witness in a case registered against the accused.
On March 11, 1999 Jitender was invited in a marriage reception along with Bhadana at a community centre in Keshav Puram, North West Delhi, where the two got involved in a heated argument that ended with Jitender pumping three bullets into Bhadana’s chest.
Jitender also shot at Madan Lal Sharma who was hosting his son’s reception. Sumit along with his friends chased Jitender but he escaped in his car.
Jitender had seen Sumit make a call to the police. So, he barged into Sumit’s Mukherjee Nagar residence and shot down his father Keemti Lal Nayyar.
There was no witness to the second killing that took place within less than two hours of the first murder. Despite the absence of an eyewitness in the second murder, ballistics reports confirmed use of the same weapon, the judge noted.
The prosecution had contended Jitender was a hardcore criminal and committed the second murder to silence the eyewitness. It is likely to demand death penalty to the convict.
Jitender had fled from Tihar Jail in 2004 but was arrested again 15 days later.
