The body of a 12-year-old girl, who went missing from her home on Tuesday night, was found dumped in the bushes next to the compound wall of a school, barely 800 metres away from her house in Outer Delhi’s Narela area on Wednesday morning.
Police said no visible injury marks were found on her body and her clothes were found to be intact and unruffled. “The girl had gone missing from her home on Tuesday night, following which her siblings approached the police and a case of kidnapping was immediately registered. The police team then carried out an intensive search in the neighborhood and adjoining areas. The railway stations and bus stops were also checked but she could not be traced. On Wednesday morning that her body was found in the bushes, 800 metres from her house,” a senior police officer said.
“It is possible that someone murdered her and then dumped the body in the area late on Tuesday nigh or early Wednesday morning since our team had carried out a proper check in the area but did not find the body.”
“Whether it is a case of sexual assault or not will be clear once the postmortem report is out. It will also help us ascertain the time of death. If the report mentions genital injuries and assault, we will add sections of rape to the already existing FIR. However, that will be clear once the report is out,” police said.
The police have kept the girl’s body at the mortuary and waiting for her parents to return.
“The girl’s parents have gone to their village in Bihar and have been informed. She was staying with her elder siblings. Once her parents are back, we will send the body for the postmortem examination. Also, their statement will be very crucial to the case as they will be able to tell us if they suspect someone,” police said.
