A 15-year-old boy was caught in the national capital for allegedly raping a minor girl in an orphanage in New Delhi, police said on Friday.

The five-year-old girl was raped allegedly by the boy earlier this month at an orphanage in Daryaganj area. Police came to know about the incident on August 20.

According to the victim’s mother, she was told that her daughter was admitted in LNJP Hospital.

“When she went to the hospital, her daughter narrated her ordeal that about 15-16 days ago, a boy took her in a room of the orphanage and assaulted her sexually,” a senior police official said. A medical examination was conducted which confirmed the rape.

“It was indeed an uphill task as there are large number of children both male and female in the orphanage. Children were divided into different age groups and also into the groups in accordance with their arrival in the orphanage,” the official said.

“Maximum attention was given to those who have recently joined the orphanage. Police zeroed in on one boy who by his conduct aroused suspicion and his responses were not proper.
“Consequently with the help of Juvenile Welfare Officers, the boy was questioned and he admitted to his guilt,” the official said.

The boy, a class IV student, took admission in the Orphan House about three months ago.
