The west district police have arrested 16 people in connection with a major clash that broke out between two groups on two successive days at Budh Vihar locality in west Delhi’s Nangloi.

More than 15 persons, including five police personnel, were injured on Tuesday evening when two groups started pelting stones at each other and the police personnel.

The incident took place on Monday after two groups clashed following an incident of eve teasing belonging to a particular community.

V Renganathan, additional commissioner of police (west), said they have so far arrested 16 people from both the groups for rioting and disturbing peace in the area. “Some of them were arrested from the spot while others were nabbed during overnight raids. We are in the process of identifying other culprits and they too will be arrested soon,” said Renganatha.

Meanwhile, the situation in Budh Vihar area was under control on Wednesday and no incident of violence was reported till late in the evening. Since tension prevailed in the area for two successive days, around 100 police personnel were camping in the locality round the clock. The law and order situation is being monitored by an ACP and four inspectors, said a senior police officer.

According to police, the eve teasing incident took place on Monday in Budh Vihar Gali no. 1, after which a minor fight erupted between two groups. The situation on Monday, was however, brought under control by the police and to avoid further tension around 30 police personnel were deployed.

On Tuesday around 5.30pm, a senior police officer said, people from both groups clashed again when some persons of one group allegedly passed remarks against the other group.
