In yet another case of suspected honour killing, a 17-year-old girl was murdered by her close relatives on Wednesday.
The victim, Gunjan, who had eloped with one of her classmates, was coaxed into coming back on the promise that she would be allowed to get married to the person of her choice, police sources said.
On Wednesday evening, her parents forced her to consume some poisonous substance and later burnt her body, the sources added.
The Badalpur police have arrested the victim’s father and two brothers for the murder.
“We came to know that one Raghuraj Singh, along with his family members, killed Gunjan by poisoning her and later burnt the body,” said Amit Kumar, SHO, Badalpur.
“Investigations revealed that the girl ran away with one of her classmates. After a few days, the family found her at Saharanpur . They somehow convinced her to come back to her native place,” Kumar added.
