A speeding Blueline bus rammed a foot over bridge at Raja Garden in west Delhi after its brakes failed on Saturday morning.
Nineteen people, including the bus driver, were injured in the mishap.
Police said the incident was reported around 9.30 a.m. on Saturday, when the brakes of the bus plying between Mongolpuri and Safdarjung Terminal failed.
“As the bus was speeding and was coming down the flyover, the driver could not stop the vehicle. He tried to limit the damage by swerving the vehicle towards a pit dug up on the road. Instead, he crashed the vehicle into a foot over bridge,” said a senior police officer.
Following the incident, a huge traffic jam resulted on the Ring Road. It took more than two hours to bring the situation under control.
Police said they have registered a case and are investigating. The injured were rushed to nearby Deen Dayal Upadhyay (DDU) Hospital.
While 15 people were discharged after first aid, four others were admitted with serious injuries.
The driver of the bus, identified as Suresh Kumar, was badly injured in the accident. There were around 80 passengers in the bus at the time of the accident.
“The injured were rushed to DDU hospital and we have registered a case under relevant sections,” said Sharad Aggarwal, deputy commissioner of police (west).
