2,300 missing children yet to be traced in Delhi

Around 2,300 of the 17,000 children who went missing from the capital in the past three years are yet to be traced, the government said on Tuesday.

Around 2,300 of the 17,000 children who went missing from the capital in the past three years are yet to be traced, the government said on Tuesday.

According to statistics placed in the Lok Sabha during Question Hour by Minister of State for home affairs Gurudas Kamat, a total of 17,305 children went missing from Delhi between 2008 and 2010, while 2,366 are yet to be traced.

Quoting the figures provided by Delhi Police, Kamat said 6,268 children went missing in 2008, 5,946 in 2009 and 5,091 in 2010.

"A total of 5,829 children were traced in 2008, in 2009 it was 5,336 and 3,774 in 2010," the Minister said.

Similarly, 1,198 children were kidnapped in 2008, in 2009 it was 2,254 and 2,975 in 2010.

However, the minister did not mention the number of rescued children.
